EXCERPT

“I own the Bed & Breakfast across the street.” Logan touched the side of her cheek. A gentle, non-threatening gesture, but it still sent those tingles through her again. “We have plenty of room, there’s no one staying during the holidays. You can call your job tomorrow and explain about the accident.”

If she did, they’d fire her. But then, chances were they’d fire her anyway. Especially, now, since she couldn’t arrive by the set deadline.

Mrs. Benedict, the matriarch of the wealthy, prominent family she’d been hired to be a chef for, had been uncompromising about the start date on the phone. She suspected the job would be entirely too demanding, but the pay had made her agree to the outrageous terms. And they’d been willing to pay room and board for both her and Ben.

“I’m sorry, I can’t.” Her cheeks flushed with humiliation, as her chin lifted. “I’m sorry, but I don’t...have any money right now.”

Logan stared at her. Where had she come from? This pretty woman with the auburn hair and dark doe eyes. He considered himself a decent guy, but he couldn’t help but notice the tempting curves while he’d carried her to the restaurant.

“Mindy, take Ben and get him set up in one of the rooms. I’ll bring Lilly over in a couple of minutes.”

Her eyes widened with panic. “No! I—”

“He’ll be fine. Mindy has five kids back at her place. She’s great with kids.”

Mindy took Ben’s hand and they left the restaurant together.

“Please, I just told you I don’t have any money.” She tried to stand, but he gave her a gentle push back onto the seat.

“We’ll work something out.”

Logan rubbed a hand over his jaw. He watched as her cheeks turned a flattering shade of pink again.

“Are you...are you coming on to me?”

Logan threw back his head and laughed. And she sure didn’t beat around the bush. “Lilly, when I come on to you I promise it won’t be subtle.”
